Today, and this coming week, is a time for us to take stock of who we are as a state and as a nation. To examine how far we have come, and to see what work still needs to be done. The Reverend Martin Luther King taught that “everybody can be great . . . because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve,” he said. “. . . You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.”
California is blessed by the many men and women, both elected and non-elected, who have chosen to serve our state. May the Holy One show compassion on all who have dedicated themselves to a life of service. May their hearts ever be full of grace, and their souls filled with a love and passion for what they do.
May this be God’s will.—AMEN.
