02/24/2011 - Daily Prayer

William Shakespeare, a man who understood the power of words, wrote:
“My words fly up, my thoughts remain below: Words without thoughts never to heaven go.”
Words in and of themselves have no inherent power. Whether in prayer or in conversation, if our words lack truth or ring hollow, they do not reach the heavens. Our words are only as meaningful as the thoughts they reflect. Both the spoken and the written word are two of the most powerful gifts that humankind possesses. The communicated word can be used to build up or tear down society, to spread enlightenment or to enforce darkness. May the Holy One of Blessing inspire us to raise our voices in the service of others and to express our hearts most noble endeavors. May this be God’s will.—AMEN.
