God of mercy, tenderness, and love, we pray to you as this Senate body comes together on this St. Patrick’s Day. Give them your assistance as we remember a Saint who was a slave, a dispossessed person, a missionary in a foreign land who recognized the dignity of those to whom he brought a message of faith in God.
Help us, O God, to be people of decency, humility, gentleness, caring, and love, always concerned for the value of each person and respectful especially of the lowly and those with little or no voice. Help us to care for all the community, not special interest groups, but to be like St. Patrick, open to all, forgiving of those who enslaved him, and always seeking new ways to enrich his people. This we pray to you, O God, this day and always. Amen.
