Creator of all humanity,
Today throughout California many of our brothers and sisters will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo, a day that extols the virtues and necessity of freedom and democracy.
Benito Juarez, a beloved 19th century President of Mexico, and servant of its people once observed that “among individuals, as among nations, peace is the respect of others’ rights.”
On this day let us be mindful of this truth, that when we respect each and every individual and the rights given to them, both by God and by governments, we create a stronger, more just, and more peaceful society.
May we be ever inspired by those who have stood up to injustice, fought for freedom and have treated their fellow human beings with dignity and respect.
May this be God’s will, AMEN.
