05/08/2014 - Daily Prayer

God of all humanity,

In life we are too often tempted to chase after transient visions of what we think will make us happy. But when we do this we are mistaking fun with true fulfillment. The great American minister, Henry Van Dyke taught that if one wants to be happy, then we should direct our vision not to what is around us, but to what is within us. He believed that “happiness is inward, and not outward; and so, it does not depend on what we have, but on what we are.”

We pray to the Holy One, the Creator of us all, to grant us the ability to find within ourselves the resources to find joy and meaning in our lives, and to find satisfaction and fulfillment based on a self-awareness of who we are, and not in what we have.

May this be God`s will--AMEN.
