08/14/2008 - Daily Prayer

Inspiration can be found in different realms-some find it in a house of worship, others in the political arena, some find it in nature, and others still find it in athletic competition.

Olympic athlete Herb Elliott said: "It is the inspiration of the Olympic Games that drives people not only to compete but to improve, and to bring lasting spiritual and moral benefits to the athlete and inspiration to those lucky enough to witness the athletic dedication."

The Olympics remind us that there is more to competition than simple winning and losing. Our souls yearn for meaning and we look to the Olympians to remind us that greatness comes from both hard work and good sportsmanship. They remind us that how one conducts themselves can make the difference between a good score and a compelling human drama.

May the Holy One help us find inspiration in all of God`s creations-in both the sacred and the mundane. May we find meaning in defeat, demonstrate grace in victory, always strive to improve ourselves, and enjoy the journey regardless if we win or lose. May this be God`s will-AMEN.
