08/25/2008 - Daily Prayer

Our Loving God, The problems we face in California today call for very difficult choices. We give thanks for Benjamin Franklin who in a similar set of circumstances of impasse, at the Constitutional convention, called for the assistance of Heaven.

We do that today.

His concern for governance was that we need Your help so that we should not be divided by little partial local interests; or that our projects should be confounded. "And what is worse . . . [we should] despair of establishing governments by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest." We stand together with him, this Senate and the people of California of all faiths and philosophies, pledged to govern this Golden State, by wisdom. For this we ask Your help.

We express our gratitude to You that Benjamin Franklin was heard and through the efforts of many, one of the great constitutions of the world came into being.

Our prayer today is that You would hear us when we ask for Your assistance in the affairs of our contemporary State, that all of us might understand from You, who we are here for, and what, all things considered, is the most loving thing to do. And then with the deepest integrity, give us the courage to get it done!

Hear our prayer.-AMEN.
