08/29/2012 - Daily Prayer

Author of Life and Death,
In the Book of Deuteronomy, as Your servant Moses concludes his instructions to the Israelites on how to establish a just society, he says: “I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse, therefore, choose life!” (Deut. 30:19)

We are taught that we, as individuals and as a society, hold life’s blessings and curses in our own hands. We know right from wrong, good from evil, compassion from indifference. Laws, whether religious or secular, are given to create a good and just world. To choose life means living according to a moral code in our personal and our public affairs, to choose life means to live a life filled with meaning and purpose.

May the Holy One guide us as we engage in our daily tasks, opening our hearts to the goodness in this world, helping us to see what is right and just, and guiding us to live lives filled with blessings for ourselves and for others. May this be God’s will. AMEN.
