08/30/2010 - Daily Prayer

In his inaugural speech after being selected to succeed the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the first Caliph, Abu Bakr, established humility and the rule of law for his government when he declared:

“O people, I have been selected your leader although I am not better than anyone of you. If I do well, support me. If I do wrong, set me right. Listen, follow me as long as I obey the law; and disobey me if I fail to follow the law.”

O Mighty God we pray:

1. To guide our senators to the way of humility when arrogance appears to be the attractive way,

2. To instill in them compassion in dealing with each other while running the affairs of our State,

3. To bring them together to set examples for how people of opposing views can work out their differences for the good of all the diverse people of California,

4. To Give them the vision to see right as right and help them to follow it, and see wrong as wrong and help them to avoid it,

With God’s peace and blessings,
