08/30/2012 - Daily Prayer

O holy and gracious God,

We find inspiration all around us, in your sanctuaries, in the natural world, and from those who push themselves to achieve what has not been done before.

The great basketball coach and teacher of life, John Wooden, taught his students that “success is a peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.”

In a society that places so much value on tangible, measurable, and material results, Coach Wooden reminds us that real success is not something to be found on a scoreboard but in how one plays the game. Real success comes not from measuring ourselves against each other, but against ourselves.

May we work each day to strive to become the best that we are capable of becoming. May this be God’s will.--AMEN.
