Prayer Offered for May 22, 2026
Upon invitation of the President, the following prayer was offered by Senator Umberg, as written by the Chaplain, Sister Michelle Gorman, RSM:
Gracious and merciful God, on this Memorial Day weekend, we remember all who have died in the service of our country, whose hearts and hopes are known to You alone.
Comfort those who grieve the loss of loved ones and let Your healing be the hope in their hearts.
Hear our prayer of gratitude for those who put the welfare of others ahead of their own and give us hearts as generous as theirs.
Help us to shape a world where we will turn our swords into ploughshares for a harvest of justice and peace.
You who created us, You who sustain us, You who call us to live in peace, hear our prayer this day.—AMEN.
