This is a prayer by the Vietnamese Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh:
In gratitude, I bow to my ancestors.
I see my mother and father, whose blood is circulating in my veins.
I open myself to receive the energy of insight, love, and experience from them and from my ancestors.
I allow their energy to flow through me, and ask for their support, protection, and strength.
In gratitude, I bow to this land.
I feel the energy of this land supporting and accepting me.
I commit to contribute my part in transforming violence, hatred, and delusion so that the future generations will have more safety, joy, and peace.
In gratitude, I bow to those I love.
All the energy I have received I now want to transmit to everyone I love, and to all who have suffered and worried for my sake.
I know I have not been mindful enough, and have caused others to suffer.
I also know that those who love me have had their own difficulties.
I desire to be one with those I love.
In understanding and compassion, I bow to those who have made me suffer.
I open my heart to all who have made me suffer.
I pray that they experience the joy of living, and no longer make themselves and others suffer.
I radiate my love and understanding to them and to all who need healing of body and spirit.
I bow down in gratitude.—AMEN.
