In Toni Morrison’s 1993 Nobel Prize Lecture, the young characters in her narration say:
“Don't tell us what to believe, what to fear. Show us belief's wide skirt and the stitch that unravels fear's caul”.
God of all creativity, As we seek the thread to unravel the causes of our fears and hatreds, May we appreciate the abundance of resources that our earth provides for all; May we work to release the creativity of all people for the common good through just laws and the power of our language to liberate rather than oppress; And may we trust Your Spirit at work to inspire, guide, and bring forth a new creation in each one of us. We ask this in Your name.—AMEN.
