Upon invitation of the President, the following prayer was offered by Senator Roth, as written by the Chaplain, Sister Michelle Gorman, RSM:
St. Paul’s letter to the Romans reminds us that we are all one body, and as such, we belong to each other.
Gracious and ever-present God, we thank You for the variety of gifts You have bestowed on this Senate body.
May we use our gift of prophecy with faith in our ability to improve the world.
May we use our gift of ministry to serve the needs of all.
May we use our teaching ability to inspire hope in our constituents.
May we use our gift of preaching to encourage active engagement of our people.
May we respond quickly and generously to give aid to those in distress.
May we exercise our leadership and authority diligently and with utmost care for those lives entrusted to us.
And may we do all we do cheerfully.
We ask this in Your Name.—AMEN.
