Prayer Offered for August 28, 2020

On this 57th anniversary of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s March on Washington, we pray:

Patient God of mercy and compassion, Your love and healing presence are made known through our willingness to collaborate in this sacred and messy world of so much beauty and so much struggle. Use our gifts, through the power of Your Spirit, to make right the inequities and injustices that still plague our world. Give us the courage to acknowledge and speak truth in the face of blatant racial injustice cowardly and horrific police brutality. Give us the strength and determination to dismantle and reorganize the systems that prevent needed change. Give us the faith to know that when we respond to the “fierce urgency of now,” this time, as a “beloved community,” we will bring renewal and restoration to our society for the benefit of the present and future generations.—AMEN.
