Peaceful God, Breath of All that Is, on this solemn remembrance of the 75th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we call ourselves to the sincere pursuit of peace and understanding as an alternative to violent ways of resolving conflicts.
Free us, O Lord, from the xenophobic fears that prevent us from seeing the goodness in others.
Help us to be advocates of a world free from threat and tyranny of nuclear war.
Let us act on behalf of the children, who depend on us for their safety and security.
May we be inspired by the hope and trust of Sadako, who endeavored to make a thousand
paper cranes before she died of the impact of the bombings.
May we become paper cranes for peace, each one proclaiming by our lives the words on
Sadako’s peace memorial: This is our cry. This is our prayer. For the building of peace in the world.—AMEN.
