Abraham Joshua Heschel said: Prayer cannot bring water to parched fields, or mend a broken bridge, or rebuild a ruined city; but prayer can water an arid soul, mend a broken heart, and rebuild a weakened will.
Gracious and loving God, who sees deeply into our souls and hearts and wills, we trust in Your desire to refresh the dryness of our souls with the moist breath of Your spirit. Our hearts are broken by so many circumstances in our lives—heal us with the tenderness of Your mercy. And strengthen our wills to find creative solutions to the many problems confronting us daily, as we live with awe and wonder at the “inconceivable surprise of living.”
