The following poem by Gregory Orr illustrates the work of the legislature.
Let’s remake the world with words.
Not frivolously, nor
To hide from what we fear,
But with a purpose.
Let’s,
As Wordsworth said, remove
“The dust of custom” so things
Shine again, each object arrayed
In its robe of original light.
And then we’ll see the world
As if for the first time.
As once we gazed at the beloved
Who was gazing at us.
Creative God, we thank you for the work of this Senate and Staff who labor daily to remake the world by the influence of their words. May they continue to demonstrate to us our potential as a state to negotiate the challenges of the future through the creative and collaborative insights and efforts of each day.—AMEN.
