Prayer Offered for June 24, 2019

We have only begun to know the power that is in us

if we would join our solitudes in the communion of struggle.

So much is unfolding that must complete its gesture,

so much is in bud.                                                                   (“Beginners” in Candles in Babylon by Denise Levertov.)

God of infinite creativity, the celebration of Pride Month acknowledges and appreciates the resilience of the many LGBTQ+ persons who have overcome eons of stigma, diminishment, and misunderstanding, while, at the same time, contributing to the advancement of society.

As we struggle to fulfill our highest ideals of love, appreciation, and understanding of the mystery of our humanity, may our lives be expressions of inclusivity and radical hospitality for those still marginalized.

Together we have the power to eliminate all forms of injustice, oppression, and violence against the LGBTQ+ community as we grow in our understanding that diversity is not a problem to be solved, but a mystery to be lived.

And may we say, with Cyndi Lauper:  I see your true colors shining through; don’t be afraid to let them show; your true colors are beautiful—like a rainbow.—AMEN.
