Prayer Offered for March 7, 2016

            On and ordinary day in 1958, the monk Thomas Merton was running errands for the monastery in Louisville, Kentucky when he was suddenly overwhelmed with the realization that he loved all those busy people on the street; that even though they were total strangers, he felt liberated from the illusory idea that they were separate. He wished that everyone could have that experience, but, he said, “There is no way of telling people that they are all walking around shining like the sun.”

            Divine Mystery, as we proceed with our work this week. we ask you

-to focus our vision to see each person bathed in your light and love;

-to sharpen our hearing to listen for words that offer solutions and hope;

-and to quicken our steps to move with patient expectation toward voices that challenge.

May we be alert to seeing each other “shining like the sun.”—AMEN.
