Prayer Offered for May 17, 2021

In a world that is doubling down in fear and fear-mongering, and increasing in intimidation and violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, each of us is called to renewed witness to the dignity of each person.

Save us, O God, from the ways in which we are complicit in racism of all sorts:

From racism so often cloaked in pious words;

From the machinations of white supremacy hiding in procedure;

From microaggressions thinly veiled in arrogance;

And macroaggressions with intent to hurt;

From regrets when they don’t give way to actions.

Deliver us, O God, from judging AAPI people by standards based in ignorance and fear:

From staying silent when words and actions of solidarity are needed;

From allowing those of non-Christian religions to be vilified;

From failing to notice that we are all one in our humanity and interdependence on one another.

Gracious God, we ask for wisdom and courage to be led by Your Spirit for the sake of the kindom that we share with each other.—AMEN.
